Many are called but only few are chosen, cliché it may sound but this is very applicable to those who are leaders in any field. Many would want to be in this position but they are just not born with the skills and charisma. On the other hand, those who already have the skills must first learn the basics.
So, before you start raising your hand and offering yourself consider the following tips.
Be prepared. This may sound odd but think of the worse case scenario in every situation. As a leader, you have to design solutions to negative results, always think two steps ahead.
With preparedness, you will now then gain the trust and confidence of your team. With loyalty comes respect which is a fruit of you continuing to look after their welfare. Trust and respect is one of the key factors in creating a good relationship within the group. Also, camaraderie results to positive working force and outputs.
As the brain of the team, you must always be open to suggestions, ideas, and other possibilities and of course, criticisms. Be open-minded and take these things seriously especially when it comes from your members. Listen and do not assume that being a leader means you already know everything.
Learn to evaluate results. As a leader you must be subjective in evaluating the outputs of your members or the group itself. Learn to assign tasks and assess right after. In this way you will know on what points your group is strong or weak.
These are just some of the key points a team leader must possess or enhance for the betterment of the company or the group. Because, when you are in doubt just go back to basics.
